Could this be the year we finally see a new 4Runner?

Toyota had itself one heck of a 2023. The new Grand Highlander and the all-new 2024 Tacoma debuted and entered production; Toyota also revived the Land Cruiser nameplate with an all-new model set to go on sale this year. Those launches, however, are only whetting our appetite for what could be an equally momentous 2024.
We already know a bit about what the brand has planned. Toyota debuted the new 2025 Camry and the new 2025 Crown Signia crossover ahead of the L.A. Auto Show last November, with both hitting the road here in 2024. That said, there could still be — indeed, likely will be — some major debuts on tap for the coming months.
Here are five new Toyota vehicles we hope to meet in 2024.

Cons
Dated interior
Fuel economy is awful
Toyota has not announced a launch date for the new 4Runner yet. But we’d be surprised if we don’t at least see the new SUV in 2024; remember, the current generation entered production back in 2009. Changes should track with the rest of the SUV and truck lineup that has converted to the new TNGA-F platform, including serious upgrades to ride quality — and, hopefully, the hybrid powertrain from the latest Tacoma and Land Cruiser.

Pros
Could be eligible for federal tax credit
Cons
Toyota EV battery tech has underwhelmed thus far
Toyota has confirmed it is developing a new three-row electric SUV to launch in America sometime in 2025, which suggests it will hopefully debut sometimes in 2024. It should be built in America and source batteries from Toyota’s new battery plant, giving it a chance to be eligible for the federal tax credit.
We suspect it will bear some resemblance to the BZ Large SUV concept revealed in 2021. We also hope Toyota comes up with a better name than “bZ5X” … but it could be the bZ5X.

Pros
Range of efficient powertrains
Rugged appearance
Huge amount of cargo space
Cons
Other options are sportier
Engine can sound agricultural
Not particularly premium feeling
The fifth-generation RAV4 entered production back in 2018. Toyota hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but we expect the new sixth-gen model of America’s best-selling non-pickup truck passenger vehicle to arrive for the 2025 model year.
We don’t anticipate many radical changes; the RAV4 will almost undoubtedly carry over the same platform. But the RAV4 may follow the Camry’s lead and go entirely hybrid.

Arrival Date

Pros
Could be smaller, more efficient option to Tacoma
Cons
Toyota has not confirmed it’s coming yet
Toyota’s first pickup in America was the compact Stout that launched in 1964. Could we see a revival for the 60th anniversary to take on the Ford Maverick? After all, Toyota USA dropped multiple posts about the Stout on its Instagram account toward the end of 2023, which gives us hope.
Toyota also recently revealed an EPU pickup concept — with left-hand drive and miles per hour on the speedometer — that looked quite close to production-ready, on the exterior at least. It’s possible we could see the new vehicle in 2024, even if it hits the streets later on down the road.

Arrival Date

Pros
Tacoma charm without the fuel consumption
Cons
Could be pricey given how expensive gas truck is
Back in 2021, Toyota said it planned to bring electrification to its pickup lineup, including BEV powertrains, “in the near future.” The brand also showed off a Pickup EV concept — one that we now know was clearly a modified 2024 Tacoma.
Adding fuel to the fire, Japanese reports say Toyota’s baby Land Cruiser is being delayed to prioritize an EV powertrain for the Tacoma. A recent study also showed that a Tacoma EV had the highest appeal rating among electric pickups — despite not existing yet.
