If I were a finance guy and men’s outerwear functioned more like a market for commodities, I’d be on the phone frantically trying to buy futures of a very specific coat.

That’s because I just received an email with something that, I’ll admit, toes the line of insider trading: photos of Jeremy Allen White on set of The Bear wearing Filson’s Waxed Tin Cloth Duster.

Filson’s trench coat is made from a mid-weight waxed canvas, ideal for keeping sheltered from wet, stormy weather. This discontinued style is unavailable directly from Filson, but it can be found secondhand on sites like eBay.

It’s unclear whether or not the jacket belongs to Jeremy Allen White or was picked out by costume designer Courtney Wheeler as a part of the actor’s wardrobe.

What I do know, however, is that if Jeremy Allen White is seen wearing the coat in a future season of The Bear, interest around the garment will explode.

Demand for Merz B. Schwanen’s loopwheeled t-shirt that featured in The Bear was so high that it crashed the label’s website. And a wool patchwork jacket by NN07, discontinued by the time the show first aired, was reissued after the spike in interest.

Unfortunately, the Filson Waxed Tin Cloth Duster — which is made with the same Halley Stevensons canvas used to make the heritage brand’s famous Tin Cloth work jacket — is no longer part of Filson’s catalog. Originally introduced in 2017, it was discontinued in 2021 likely based on sales volume.

When asked whether or not the brand would consider re-introducing the duster in the future, Alex Carleton, Chief Creative Officer said that “We regularly reissue products from our archives. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of the Duster’s return if there’s sufficient interest…”.

In the meantime, you can still find a few example on eBay. And for now, at least, prices aren’t astronomically expensive.

If I’m right, though, the $200-$460 price range you can find them at now could soon seem like a bargain, and you might wish you bought in early.
