Apple recently released some real pro tips for iPhone users. First, the tech brand says not to put your phone in rice if it gets wet since there’s a risk of rice getting where it shouldn’t and creating an even worse problem. Instead, you’re supposed to tap your phone against your hand to shake the water out with the connector opening facing down to let moisture out. The brand also said that closing your open apps doesn’t actually help your battery life. In fact, going through and closing them out could actually use more battery than it saves. How are we just now learning all this? We recently talked to an expert and learned more about the best ways to charge your phone and better habits to take care of its battery (like not letting your phone die — oops). Check out it out here.
Today we’re taking a look at a wearable sleeping bag, new running shoes and a slick carabiner. This is Today in Gear.
New Outerknown Arrivals
Just launched: Outerknown dropped new arrivals for spring, and we’re already imagining our outfits for spring road trips. We’re loving the classic Chroma Blanket Shirt ($168) — a thick flannel in a bright, clean white. Pair it with the Field Short ($118), organic cotton utility shorts sporting large front pockets and an internal waistband with a drawcord to adjust the fit.
Hello, Cloudmonster 2
New and improved: Got spring running goals? On just dropped a brand-new version of its best-selling Cloudmonster. This time around it was built with even more cushioning and more propulsion. The midsole has been redesigned to achieve maximum energy return, and the brand has increased the overall recycled content in the shoe to 24 percent. The Cloudmonster 2 ($180) features a 6mm drop, standard lacing and weighs in at 295 grams.
A Wearable Sleeping Bag
You have our attention: This must be exactly what dreams are made of. The Exped Dreamwalker ($150) is the wearable sleeping bag we didn’t know we needed (but have definitely wanted). It’s basically a 3-for-1: In sleeping bag mode, it has a drawstring “footbox” and 3D hood to stay cozy at night; in parka mode, you can free your feet and walk around; and when it’s fully unzipped, it can be used as a camp blanket.
A Springy Shirt
Fun and fresh: The Bless Up Breathable Stretch Shirt ($89) is moisture wicking, stretchy and perforated for breathability — aka exactly what you want to wear when it’s hot and humid out. The quick-dry shirt is made for days spent outside, and its durability means you can safely take it anywhere with you. It doesn’t hurt that it has a fun, beach-y pattern either.
A Do-It-All Carabiner
Inside scoop: New from Ant Design is the seriously rugged GH Carabiner ($109 Super Early Bird offer on Kickstarter). While a carabiner has inherent utility — say, for holding keys — the GH takes it up at least 10 notches. It’s a titanium carabiner with 17 different functions, including a bottle opener, glass breaker, flat head screwdriver, fire starter and utility knife.
